Why I love Christmas in New York City
Every holiday season a group of American Classic travelers visit New York City for a Christmas Broadway extravaganza. Full of energy, lights, wonderful shopping options, and, most importantly, Christmas cheer, traveling to the "Big Apple" in early December is a perfect way to start your holiday season.
So what do Shakespeare, Gloria Estefan, and America's Favorite Christmas Tradition have to do with why I love traveling to New York City for Christmas every year? Well, the answer is simple, they each describe one of the 3 Broadway shows we will be enjoying on our trip to New York City this Christmas.
Let me explain.
America's Favorite Christmas tradition
In 1933, one of the great American Christmas traditions was born--The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. This 90 minute Broadway presentation has it all: original music, nostalgic tradition, singing, dancing, humor, and 140 world-class performers. The Rockettes are an iconic image of the grandeur of Christmas in New York City, its hard to imagine a Christmas in New York without them.
Something Rotten is Broadway's favorite comedy of 2016. This show, written by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick, tells the story of two brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom. The Bottom brothers are ambitious playwrights who find their ambitions stifled by their contemporary and competitor William Shakespeare. Full of witty Shakespeare references, this 2015 Tony Award winner is a must-see.
This jukebox musical tells the story of the dynamic husband-and-wife musical duo of Gloria and Emilio Estefan. After premiering in Chicago during the summer of 2015, On Your Feet! hit Broadway in October of 2015 and it has enjoyed massive success ever since. This smash hit is nominated for a Tony in 2016.
