Flight to San Antonio
We took a short flight from Chicago to San Antonio. Pictured above is a view of the San Antonio skyline from the air.
Holiday Inn Riverwalk
We arrived at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk for a 4-night stay. Located on the Riverwalk, this hotel served as the perfect home away from home for our entire trip. We only had to unpack our bags once and we were within walking distance of the Riverwalk’s shops, restaurants, and bars.
San Fernando Cathedral
Our guided tour of San Antonio began with a visit to the historic San Fernando Cathedral in downtown San Antonio. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the San Fernando Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in America.
Mission San Jose
Founded in 1720, Mission San Jose is known as the “Queen of the Missions” because it was the largest of the Spanish missions in Texas. It was restored to its original design in the 1930’s by the Works Project Adminstration.
Designated in 2015 as UNESCO World Heritage, the Alamo is one of the most visited tourist attractions in America. This Spanish Mission located in downtown San Antonio, was the site of the famous Battle of the Alamo in 1836.
Dinner at Mi Tierra
We enjoyed a delicious food and a Mariachi performance at San Antonio’s famous Mi Tierra Restaurant.
San Fernando Cathedral Light Show
Every Tuesday the city of San Antonio puts on an amazing light show that is projected onto the San Fernando Cathedral.
Chester Nimitz National Museum of the Pacific War
Admiral Chester Nimitz served as Commander in Chief of the US Pacific Fleet in World War II. He played an instrumental role in America’s success in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. He was born in raised in the small German town of Fredericksburg.
The National Museum of the Pacific War tells the complete story of the Pacific Ocean Theater of World War II. The museum explores the history of China and Japan, the events that led to the Pacific War, and the United States military effort in the Pacific.
Fredericksburg Pioneer Museum
At the Pioneer Museum we enjoyed a German lunch, and we took a tour of this well-preserved German Pioneer settlement in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Situated in Texas’s scenic hill country, YO Ranch is home to exotic wildlife from around the world.
Behind the scenes sea world tour
We took a behind-the-scenes tour of San Antonio’s Sea World! We saw dolphins, sea lions, otters, beluga whales, and more!
Cruise San Antonio Riverwalk
On our last night in San Antonio, we explored one of of America’s top urban attractions — the San Antonio Riverwalk. We took a guided cruise on the river. The Riverwalk is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights leading up to the holidays.
