The bucolic Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts offer a splendid backdrop for this festive holiday trip to colonial New England with its white church steeples, white-fenced farms, and charming villages. Visit the Norman Rockwell Museum of Stockbridge, Massachusetts Nestled in the midst of a beautiful 36-acre campus, this museum is home to the largest and most significant collection of original Rockwell art including the enduring favorites from Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post covers and the powerful Four Freedoms paintings. In addition to lively special exhibitions of works by American illustrators past and present, see Rockwell’s original studio and sculptures by his son, Peter Rockwell. Enjoy lunch at the historic Red Lion Inn followed by free time on Stockbridge’s Main Street made famous in one of Rockwell’s works. Other highlights: Yankee Candle Flagship Store, Fireplace Feast at Salem Cross Inn and a Candlelight Christmas at Old Sturbridge Village – a living history 1830’s New England village. Special feature: The Breakers and The Marble House – Newport mansions festively decorated for Christmas. This tour will conclude in Boston with a guided tour of The Freedom Trail and a visit to Trinity Church. The beloved Christmas carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem, was written by the ninth rector of this beautiful church. ‘Tis the season to be jolly and to experience a Boston tradition: The Holiday Pops Concert performed by The Boston Pops Orchestra. Itinerary

Day 1

Flight to Boston. Arrive at Hotel Viking for two nights. The award-winning Hotel Viking has hosted many notable guests such as Will Rogers, Ella Fitzgerald, John and Jackie Kennedy. Experience the warmth & character of a small Rhode Island boutique hotel of yesteryear, registered with the Historic Hotels of America, yet updated with modern amenities. Dinner at The Pier, Newport. 

 

Day 2

Breakfast. Guided tour of Newport, RI, legendary haven for the rich and famous, fabulous seaside estates, and   world class yachting. Savor breathtaking views along the 10-mile Atlantic Ocean Drive. Tour Breakers Mansion, a seventy room northern Italian palazzo & the largest of all the Newport mansions and is impressive by sheer size. Built   for Mr. & Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt, the mansion contains the original furnishings and is also beautifully decorated for the holidays. Explore downtown Newport. Tour Marble House adorned with thousands of poinsettia plants, spectacular evergreens, trees, wreaths and fresh flowers and 19th century style ornaments. The dining tables are set with period silver & china. Dinner at colonial White Horse Tavern, built in 1652. As America's oldest tavern this was a regular haunt for Colonists, British soldiers, Hessian mercenaries, pirates, sailors, founding fathers and all manner of early American folk.

 

Day 3

Breakfast. Scenic travel to Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Experience New England hospitality with lunch at the historic Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge. Explore charming Stockbridge’s. Main Street made famous in one of  Norman Rockwell’s paintings. Visit Norman Rockwell Museum & Studio to view the world’s largest collection of original Norman Rockwell art. Arrive at the upscale Orchards Hotel set along the Mohawk Trail, Williamstown, Massachusetts. Dinner at hotel.

 

Day 4

Breakfast. Scenic drive through the Berkshire Hills and historic Deerfield, MA. Yankee Candle Flagship Store. Historic Fireplace Feast at the Salem Cross Inn, a 1700s colonial home set on 600 acres of New England    farmland. Experience open hearth roasting of prime rib & assist in the preparation of a deep dish apple pie     with antique apple peeler. Enjoy the sights and sounds of a Candlelight Christmas at Old Sturbridge Village - a living history village recreating rural New England in the 1830s. Spend an enchanted evening of gingerbread, roasted    chestnuts, music, dance, and a sleigh ride (weather permitting). Arrive at the opulent 19th-century   Omni Parker House Hotel near the   Boston Commons. 

 

Day 5

 Breakfast. Explore the rich history of Boston on a Freedom Trail guided tour. Enjoy a free afternoon in Boston. Dinner in Boston. Enjoy the Holiday Pops Concert performed by the Boston Pops Orchestra. 

 

Day 6

Breakfast. Tour Trinity Episcopal Church ca. 1877 and hear the pipe organ. The ninth rector of this church, Phillips Brooks, wrote the beloved Christmas carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem.  Flight to Chicago.
